This is the most incredible collection of Gibson basses. I love it! Thanks for taking the time. I am in the market to buy one of these and this was so helpful to me. I think I like the earlier 90's one the best, especially the way it looks with the inlayed headstock, trap fingerboard inlays, etc. It sounds like it's heavier too, which doesn't bother me.

Thank you so much for posting this great demonstration video and especially with the variety of basses you provided here. I have been really curious about Gibson basses for a long time, especially the Les Paul single cut looking bass guitars. Four bassists who used Gibson basses in particular have pulled at my curiosity for well over two decades. Tom Hamilton from Aerosmith, Nikki Sixx from Motley Crue, Twiggy Ramirez from Marilyn Mason, and the one who is probably the most fascinating to me who used a Gibson bass was Duff McKagan of Guns N' Roses. An odd yet very consistent observation I have noticed for a long time with Gibson basses I tried is that they seem to be really quiet basses, with both weak resonating woods/construction and weak output pickups. Also, the Les Paul and Thunderbird basses don't sound right unless they have ebony fretboards. I can't pin point why this is because other basses sound great and loud with non ebony fretboards. The most intersting chapter of Gibson basses for me though was that during the last 6 months of the "Use Your Illusion Tour" from January 1993 to July 1993, Duff Mckagan used a beautiful flame top in cherry burst Les Paul bass for most of the set during their concerts. His Fender P/J basses became backups, not the main basses during this time period. The mystery though with Duff's Les Paul bass is that it doesn't sound like a Les Paul bass at all. It sounds like something else and sounded amazing live if I may add. There is an online bass forum somewhere, I forget the name of the website, apparently Duff's use of this bass has also gained many other people's curiosities too and people have speculated there about it from so many different angles. One of the points made that really makes sense about his sound from that bass is that what we are hearing is actually a fortified blend of sounds created by the live mixing engineers that were "working the mixing boards" during the shows. Also, he may have had really hot overwound pickups installed that pulled the tone of that bass through the amps, front of house mix/montors, back of house mix, and of course fortified by the PA system speakers. Also, I noticed that Nikki Sixx sounds completely different when he has played Thunderbirds with rosewood vs ebony fretboards. Rosewood feetboards on Gibson basses for the life me sound dull and completely muddy. Gibson's regular six string guitars of any model with rosewood fretboards sound great and work in any format. Sorry for the ramble.

I think 2013 Gold top is the top notch in any playing style.

that black one has such a sweet delicious rumble, my goddddd. the darker tone is just the most satisfying sound ever. but that 2000 one is also amazing with that dirty sound. (talking about with gain and using a pick). i have a a pair of 2000s standards. i absolutely love them. they sound as good as they look. and all the ones in this video rocked.

Japan and USA Fender sound, well, ill, next to the G&L. It's embarrassing for them.

Thanks so much for making this exhaustive demo. It's been a pleasure to listen to, you've managed to get great tones out of all the basses. I think I like the goldtop one the most though, I might have to get one eventually

Got my Prism about a month ago, it is truly a secret weapon amongst the soundscape effects pedals - not many people have heard of it, and you dont see it "out there" very much.... I am 100% sure that I have my settings set just like you have here, and though there are plenty of settings to change it to, I have been stuck on this heavenly sound for 3 weeks now.... =)

Sounds a bit too clanky for my taste.

I'll say this, Greco does their frets just like Gibson does, the cheap way, that's metal frets end even to the fretboard and then the fret nibs where the rest of the fret is made of binding, which is missing on this which means some of the fret nibs broke off, which happens with this type of build and then the fret binding nibs are all filed down and the fret ends finished, thankfully Greco doesn't use thick binding like Gibson does....because you lose real estate on your fretboard on a Gibson

А как можно разгонять то его нет? я про оконечник. Я может, конечно, чего-то не знаю, но у Twin плеер импульсов сразу после лампового преампа, перед петлей эфектов. Разгон петли не имеет никакого смыла, вы нагружаете вход в звуковую карту. А петля реализована скорее для удобства коммутации, чтоб уже сформированный звук забрать XLR. По сути, можно send в ревер, а выход из ревера в звуковую карту. Получится то же самое. Но не балансный

Was gonna buy a 95 for 1400 bucks but it sounded absolutely awful so did the music man the guy brought over not sure what the deal was both were awful guess I'm sticking to my Korean made squire bullet bass from the 80s

Alder one sounds more focused and compressed which can be preferred in certain situation for cutting thru the mix. Ash sounds looser and open which could be preferred in certain situations like when you play in a smaller ensemble and want to fill in the gaps when playing rhythm and just use a mid heavy overdrive like a tube screamer to tighten the sound in the solos.

Love my 02 epi lp standard people mistake it for a Gibson all the time it sounds like the black Gibson he was playing but mine doesn't have the fret buzz but it might be because I had the frets polished and set up with nylon tapewound strings

Was there more that one Matsumoku made Aria Pro II SBR-60 as I bought one recently & it has 2 pickups with dual concentric pots & 2 coil taping switches.... As soon as I saw it I thought it was either the Aria Pro II SB900 or the Aris Pro II II VERSION II!.. When I looked the SBR-60 I have I looked up at other models & it's uncanny as the other advertised SBR-60 look almost identical to the SB900 So I dug deeper & for what I read the version of the SBR-60 With 3 Pickups/2 dual concentric pot & 2 coil tapping switches was a limited run but even though they didn't build as many as the other SB Range it sold out very fast so when I saw it on Sale I thought " I'll have that " Now this part I'm not sure about as I'm not 100% about this story but apart from the uncanny likeness to the SB900 It seemed the Aria Pro II Elite I VERSION I wasn't seling too well & it was something to do withing something silly as the aesthetic look of the Elite I VERSION I was not a hit with the fan so when Thru released the Aria Pro II SB Ii VERSION II they went back & used the exact same design as the SBR-60 that sold in limited numbers... Does anyone know anything about this or did the shop I bought this from Swll me an Aria Pro II SB900 but mistake but I doubt it as he purely deals in only selling bass guitars only & on my large printed out receipt it definitely does say an Aria Pro II SBR-60!... All I know is when I received it the first dual concentric pot was busted but I dropped it off to a Luthier I known about 4 weeks ago & eventually he pot a dual concentric pot that would work with her SBR-60 but it now wouldn't take my original control knobs!. So my luthier friend call me & informed me of this before he went any further as he said he could cut & reshape the pot ends or go for a different set of control knobs & I went with the latter as i didn't want this dual concentric pot damaged by accident... I must say he pick a sweet set of dual concentric control knobs as they do look like they came as standard but that a few odd things I've seen with images of a 2 pickups/dual concentric pots & the rest that I've mentioned... Up at the front of the neck where you'd insert the truss rod it usually say the model for the SBR-60 & I think it I'd the same with the SB900 but the SBR-60 I've bought is 41 years old & the write writing is all but gk apart from a few bits of white dots here & there!.. Any information would be appreciated... In light of this still ongoing coronavirus and it's variants stay safe and healthy wherever you are in this world... .....

They all sound good. I don't really get why you don't see them very often... I'd take one over a Thunderbird any day. I have two RD Artists and they are the only Gibsons I've ever owned. This video gives me faith though. Thank you for making it!
